Mask & Ask · Last updated 2 October 2026
This policy explains what Mask & Ask (the "plugin"), published by Auteur, collects when you use it inside ChatGPT, why, and what control you have.
What we collect and process
- Nothing you paste into the Mask & Ask panel. Detection, masking and the placeholder key all stay in your browser; our server never receives your original text or your key.
- When ChatGPT shows an answer with real names restored, it passes that answer (which contains only placeholders such as [PERSON_1]) to our server, which sends it straight back to the panel in your browser.
ChatGPT sends us an anonymous user identifier with each request. We never receive your name, e-mail address or chat history. We store only a one-way hash of that identifier so your saved items stay yours. We do not ask for or accept passwords, payment details, government identifiers or health records.
Why
Only to perform the action you asked the plugin to do and to show you the result. We do not sell data, show ads, build advertising profiles, or use your content to train models.
Who receives it
- No one. The masked text you choose to send goes to ChatGPT like any message you type. Our server runs on Cloudflare, Inc. (infrastructure provider) and keeps no copy.
How long we keep it
We store nothing. Answers passed to restore_placeholders are echoed back and discarded at once. The placeholder key is kept only in your browser's local storage for up to 24 hours (or only while the panel is open, if your browser blocks storage), and you can delete it at any time. Server logs that may contain IP addresses are kept by our hosting provider for up to 7 days for security.
Your controls
- Use "Forget this mapping" in the panel's Key tab to delete the key from your browser immediately.
- Preview shows exactly what will be sent before anything leaves the panel; you can un-hide or hide any word first.
Children
The plugin is not directed at children under 13.
